This is one of the most widespread families of Bamboo in the world, partly due to its great ability to adapt to different environments, but above all for its great characteristics and uses. It originates from central China, where it has been a basic and essential material in the daily life for thousands of years, at present it still spreads out in great virgin forests of the mountains. In spring, when the new stems of a nice blue-green color are born from the rhizome, you can appreciate the impressive speed with which this bamboo grows, which can easily exceed 30 cm a day.<\/p>\n

The canes reach between 18 and 25 m. of height in only a few months and dedicate the following years to develop its woody structure while new stems continue to sprout annually from the mother plant. Thus, although the canes are cut around 5 years of age, the population remains constant and healthy at all times – removing the mature stems gives more energy resources such as light, water and nutrients for the new culms.<\/p>\n

Once cut, the canes are being selected and dried out for at least 3 months until they are ready to ship. Looking at the environmental aspect, Bamboo is considered a perfect substitute to classic wood and long maritime transport to Europe are not as impactful in the calculation of the ecological footprint as the enormous amount of CO2 fixed by this plant in its short life cycle. Bamboo also works as a water regulator, creates a large amount of biomass and its collection and use allows to preserve the threatened tree forests.
